Tsyrenov And Puetz Advance To Doubles Main Draw At All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. - Auburn's Alexey Tsyrenov and Tim Puetz made it through to the main draw of the D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships on Wednesday, playing in their first tournament as a doubles team.

The Tigers defeated Roy Kalmanovich and Marc Spicijaric of Illinois, 8-4, in the third qualifying round to move on. They also charted wins over Ionut Beleleu and Andrei Daescu of Oklahoma and Drake's Mauricio Ballivian and Maor Zirkin.

The duo will face Raony Carvalho and Christian Rojmar of Texas Tech in the first round of the main draw at 5:30 p.m., Thursday.

Both Tsyrenov and Puetz will compete in the main singles draw Thursday.

Tryrenov is ranked No. 21 nationally while Puetz earned the No. 40 spot. Their pre-season ranking propelled them straight to the main draw without qualifying.

Puetz will challenge 11th-seeded Steven Moneke (Ohio State) at 8 a.m. and Tsyrenov will take on the No. 4 seed Alex Clayton (Stanford) at 11:30 a.m.
