AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's tennis team finished competition at the Auburn Fall Classic Sunday at the City of Auburn/Auburn University Yarborough Tennis Center. The Tigers faced Troy in the afternoon session, while South Carolina and Embry-Riddle battled in the morning.
Freshman Davis Taylor had another successful day for the Tigers, picking up his second singles win of the weekend. The Montgomery, Ala., native battled Troy's Guilherme Sahadi in two sets and took the 6-3, 7-6 (1) victory.
Also recording a win for Auburn was freshman Andreas Mies. The Niederkassel, Germany, product took on Aurelien Tave in flight one singles, finishing with the two-set win (6-1, 6-3).
Other Tigers competing in singles play were juniors Nick Maurillo, Alex Jorne and Michel Monteiro and freshman Michael Wardell. Maurillo lost to Branko Weber (6-0, 7-5), while Wardell dropped a two-set match (6-2, 6-1). Jorne lost to Mario Rolemberg (6-4, 6-4).
Monteiro recorded a 6-3 first-set victory over Troy's Bastian Maucher. However, in the second set, Maucher took the close 7-5 win and went on to take the third set, 6-0.
Auburn opened the day with doubles competition. The duo of Jorne and Taylor took on Tave and Sahadi and the two teams proved to be an equal match. Each pair battled back and forth, fighting for each set. Tave and Sahadi fought through and took the match, 8-7 (3).
Maurillo and Mies lost to Rolemberg and Maucher (8-2), while Wardell and Monteiro lost to Weber and Masson, 8-3.
