BISHOP, Ga. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The No. 2 Auburn equestrian team faced a tough No. 4 Georgia team on the road and fell to the Bulldogs, 11-7, Friday afternoon at the UGA Equestrian Complex. The loss moved the Tigers to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in SEC competition.
"Sometimes when you do the right things, it just doesn't work in your favor," head coach Greg Williams said. "I'm very proud of this team and the way they competed today. There is nothing we need to change much on. We're a good team and we have all the confidence with how we'll finish out at the end of the season.
The Horsemanship crew finished 3-1 over the Bulldogs, picking up career-high scores in every match. Sophomore Lauren Diaz scored an impressive 79 in her win over Bailey Anderson to secure MOP honors, while classmate Megan Rauh finished with a 77.5-77 victory in her match. Senior Hannah Stephens earned 78 points, besting Anna Hutlas's 74. Freshman Kara Kaufmann remained undefeated in the event after tying Sammie Johnson, 76-76. Newcomer Cydney Benes finished with a solid score of 76.5 in her loss.
Following intermission, Auburn topped Georgia with a 3-2 score in Equitation on the Flat. Senior Tory Hoft recorded her fifth win of the season with an 80-69 victory to start things off. Sophomore Ashton Alexander earned MOP honors with an 84-80 win over Maddy Darst, while classmate Caitlin Boyle won her match, 85-71.
Boyle picked up a point in Equitation Over Fences for the Tigers, defeating Liza Finsness, 84-81. In Reining, sophomore Blair McFarlin tied Kyndall Harper, 71.5-71.5.
Auburn returns to The Plains for another SEC meet, hosting No. 7 South Carolina at the Auburn University Horse Center, Nov. 18. The Tigers and the Gamecocks will face off at 3 p.m. CT and admission is free.
