Five Tigers Earn NCEA All-Academic Honors

AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Five members of the No. 2 Auburn equestrian team earned NCEA All-Academic team honors, including two on the first team, the National Collegiate Equestrian Association announced Wednesday.

Senior Caitlin Creel and junior Lauren Diaz were placed on the Farnam NCEA All-Academic First Team. The selection is the first for Creel and second-straight for Diaz. Recipients must have competed in a minimum of 70 percent of the school's meets, not including demo or exhibition rides. They also have to have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

Earning a spot on the Farnan NCEA All-Academic Second Team was juniors Caitlin Boyle and Hayley Iannotti. The honor is the second for Boyle and first for Iannotti. In this category, student-athletes much have competed in 60 percent of the year's meets and have earned a GPA of 3.25.

Rounding out the five and representing Auburn on the Farnam NCEA All-Academic Honorable Mention team is senior Alexa Rivard. The award is the second for the Suwanee, Ga., product. Requirements include 50 percent and a GPA of 3.0.

The Tigers earned the No. 2 overall seed for the 2018 NCEA Championship. In addition, Horsemanship and Equitation on the Flat also earned No. 2 seeds, while Equitation Over Fences and Reining came in at No. 3. The national meet is slated for April 18-21 and will take place at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.
