AUBURN, Ala. – Here's a look at how the 27 former Auburn players on active NFL rosters fared this past weekend in week five of the NFL season.
BEST OF WEEK 5
Josh Bynes, LB, Arizona Cardinals
It was another big week for Bynes, who not only recorded 11 tackles and his first sack of the season – he also scored his first NFL touchdown. The seventh-year player picked up a fumble and returned it 23 yards to extend the Cardinals' lead and help seal a 28-18 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Through the first five games, Bynes is tied for second on the team with 43 tackles.

Jonathan Jones, CB, New England Patriots
Jones had five tackles, two passes defended and an interception that he returned 28 yards to help the Patriots knock off the Indianapolis Colts, 38-24, on Thursday Night Football. It was the second career interception for the third-year player and former undrafted free agent. Jones has now had three or more tackles in every game this season is one of the leading tacklers on the team.
Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers
Newton returned after the bye week and threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns to lead his team to a 33-31 win over the New York Giants. The former No. 1 overall pick went 21 of 35 through the air and completed two passes for 29 yards in the final minute to help set up a game-winning field goal. Newton also rushed for 29 yards and is currently third among all quarterbacks with 165 yards rushing.
OTHER TIGERS IN THE NFL
Montravius Adams, DT, Green Bay Packers
Adams, entering his second season with the Packers, played a total of seven snaps in a 31-23 loss to the Detroit Lions. He has one tackle through the first five games.
Cameron Artis-Payne, RB, Carolina Panthers
Artis-Payne was active but didn't see the field in Sunday's win over the New York Giants.
Peyton Barber, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With the Buccaneers on bye, Barber did not play this week.
Daren Bates, LB, Tennessee Titans
Bates, the special teams captain, played 26 snaps and 81 percent of all special teams snaps in a 13-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He did not record any stats.
Angelo Blackson, DE, Houston Texans
The fourth-year pro recorded two tackles in a 19-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Blackson now has multiple tackles in four of the five games to open the 2018 campaign.
Sammie Coates, WR, Houston Texans
Coates played only six snaps and did not record any stats in a 19-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys. He returned last week after missing two games due to injury.
Shon Coleman, OL, San Francisco 49ers
Coleman did not play again in week five. The third-year player was traded from the Cleveland Browns to the 49ers at the end of August.
Blake Countess, DB, Los Angeles Rams
Countess, who has become a featured returner on the Rams' special teams, accounted for 98 yards on four kick returns in a 33-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
Carlton Davis, CB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With the Buccaneers on bye, Davis did not play this week.
Casey Dunn, C, Washington Redskins
Dunn did not play in a week five loss to the New Orleans Saints. The rookie center made the 53-man roster after signing with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent in the offseason.
Dee Ford, LB, Kansas City Chiefs
Ford had another productive day Sunday to help the Chiefs beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 30-14. The former first-round pick recorded five tackles, four quarterback hits, a sack and a forced fumble. It was Ford's third consecutive game with a sack, and he's now tied for the team lead with four sacks through the first five games.
Rudy Ford, DB, Arizona Cardinals
Ford didn't record any stats but played 22 snaps on special teams for the second straight week in a 28-18 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He has three tackles on the season.
Corey Grant, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
On his only carry of the game, Grant picked up eight yards but also injured his foot in Sunday's 30-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The fourth-year player, who signed a new deal in the offseason, is expected to miss the remainder of the season after the team placed him on injured reserve. He had 40 yards rushing and 67 yards receiving through the first five games.
Josh Harris, LS, Atlanta Falcons
Harris served as the team's long snapper in their 41-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kerryon Johnson, RB, Detroit Lions
A week after scoring his first career touchdown, Johnson ran for 70 yards on 12 carries and also caught two passes for 15 yards in a 31-23 win over the Green Bay Packers. The rookie running back now has 354 total yards through the first five game and his overall offensive PFF grade (72.7) is No. 15 among all running backs.
Brandon King, LB, New England Patriots
King played 19 snaps on special teams and recorded one tackle in a 38-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night. The fourth-year pro, who plays primarily special teams, has recorded a tackles in three of the five games to open the season.
Devaroe Lawrence, DL, Cleveland Browns
Lawrence, who is in his first season with the Browns after being traded over from the Saints, had no stats in a 45-42 loss to the Oakland Raiders.
Carl Lawson, DE, Cincinnati Bengals
A week after picking up his first sack of 2018, Lawson finished with one tackle and one quarterback hit in a 27-27 win over the Miami Dolphins.
Cody Parkey, K, Chicago Bears
With the Bears on bye, Parkey did not play this week.
Greg Robinson, OL, Cleveland Browns
Robinson played four snaps on special teams in a 12-9 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The former No. 2 overall pick in the NFL draft signed with the Browns in the offseason.
Braden Smith, OL, Indianapolis Colts
After playing only 10 snaps through the first four games, Smith got the start at right tackle and played all 83 offensive snaps for the Colts in a 38-24 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday night. The rookie offensive lineman allowed just two hurries/pressure in 62 pass blocks and earned earned an overall PFF grade of 79.0, fifth-best among all NFL offensive tackles.
Neiko Thorpe, CB, Seattle Seahawks
As part of the kickoff coverage unit, Thorpe recorded two tackles in a 33-31 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. A former safety at Auburn, Thorpe is featured mainly on the Seahawks' special teams units.
C.J. Uzomah, TE, Cincinnati Bengals
Uzomah recorded two catches for 43 yards on his only two targets in a 27-17 win over the Miami Dolphins. The fourth-year tight end has started four of the first five games this season and recorded a catch in all five games to help the Bengals jump out to a successful 4-1 start.
Jermaine Whitehead, S Green Bay Packers
Whitehead was held out of Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions with a back injury. Through the first four games, the fourth-year player had 19 tackles, three passes defended and a sack. It's undetermined if he will return for a Week 6 tilt against the San Francisco 49ers.
