Clemson, S.C.—The Auburn track and field team closed strong on Day 2 of the Tiger Paw Invitational with 14 individual personal bests and a freshman school record. Redshirt freshman Madi Malone broke her own school rookie record in the weight throw with a toss of 19.28m, besting her previous record of 19.03m set a week ago.

Malone's freshman record in the women's weight throw wasn't the only stellar performance in the event. Teammate Erin Perkins finished fifth with a huge toss of 19.28m to move into fourth all-time on Auburn's performer's chart.

"Our field events was the highlight of the day today with several outstanding performances," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "Erin Perkins had a huge PR in the weight throw and finished fifth against a very strong field and Madi Malone was outstanding again breaking her own freshman record in the event. Skyler Daniels did a really good job in the high jump with a strong performance getting into the top 16 nationally along with a new best. I'm also proud of our distance runners and the numerous PRs they set on the weekend."

Senior Skyler Daniel had a career performance in the high jump, finishing second with a lifetime-best jump of 1.79m/5-10.5, good 16th nationally this indoor season. Daniel's jump made her the seventh best performer in school history.

The two-day meet saw Auburn tally 26 individual career bests while competing against some of the nation's top teams.

"We have a young team and had several personal bests against strong competition, which means that our kids are competing hard," Spry said. "We have a lot of work to do, but this team is maturing. This was a meet that was good for us as it served as a good test as we prepare for conference in two weeks."

The Auburn distance team had a strong weekend with 15 of the Tigers' 26 PRs, including 10 on the women's side.

On the men's side, senior Kevin Wyss and freshman Dontavious Hill were the top performers on the day. Wyss set a new PR in the 3000m finishing third in 8:16.99, while Hill also grabbed bronze in the men's high jump after clearing 2.10m/6-10.75.

Jaron Brooks was fifth in the men's high jump while freshman Shaun Shivers was sixth in the 200m dash.

Auburn will take next week off before competing in the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., February 22-23.
