Tallahassee, Fla.—Auburn junior Kylee Carter broke her own school record in the women's javelin and posted the nation's number two mark to lead the Tigers track and field program in their outdoor opener Friday at the Florida State Relays. A native of Beauregard, Ala., Carter won the event with a toss of 57.45m/188-6, surpassing her previous school mark by nearly nine feet.

Freshman Shaun Shivers had a strong outing, winning the men's 200m in 21.00 while also finishing fifth in the 100m (10.53). Senior Skyler Daniel also brought home gold, winning the women's high jump as the Tigers swept the event. Daniel cleared 1.74m/5-8.5, while teammates Natosha Jordan and Caroline Lawrence were second and third respectively, as each cleared 1.69m/5-6.5.

"I was really pleased with our outdoor opener against some pretty stiff competition," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "Just like indoors, you want to get the ball rolling and see where we are with the opener. I liked what I saw. Kylee Carter had a great day breaking her own school record in the javelin and posting the number two mark in the nation in the season opener is very impressive. We also had event wins from freshman Shaun Shivers in the 200m and Skyler Daniel in the high jump, so I'm pleased with their performances."

Competing against a strong field of teams, the Auburn men were fourth in the team standings with 95 points, while the Tiger women were also fourth with 82 points.

Auburn had six runner-up finishes as a team and three third-place efforts. On the men's side freshman Erik Ebel (57.01m/187-0) in the javelin, senior Mark Rubalcaba (14.53m/47-8) in the triple jump, and sophomore Tommy McDonough (14:58.02) in the 5000m all grabbed second place in their respective events.

In the men's javelin, senior John Putnam and sophomore Cade Antonucci were second and third, respectively in the event. Putnam's best effort was 67.32m/220-10, while Antonucci was three feet behind at 66.33m/217-7.

Silver medal finishes on the women's side came from All-American Madi Malone after a PR of 62.59m/205-4 in the hammer throw and Tori McKinley in the shot put (15.37m/50-5.25).

3. Peyton Montgomery, 46.59m/152-10.

Freshmen pole vaulter James Courson claimed third in the event clearing 4.75m/15-7 and fellow newcomer Dontavious Hill won bronze after clearing 2.12m/6-11.5 in the high jump.

"Overall, we had some pretty nice performances in all areas and events with several personal bests and good marks for the first meet of the outdoor season," Spry said. "It was great to have the full team competing and as a group they came out ready, excited and competed."

Auburn will have a busy week ahead with the team competing in four locations. Decathlete Chris Stone will be at the Texas Relays, while others will be competing at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. The majority of the Tigers will be at the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford.
