Auburn, Ala.—The Auburn track and field program won five individual events and one relay during the two-day Tiger Track Classic, Frida and Saturday, at Hutsell-Rosen Track.
The men's 4x100m relay quartet of Marrel Parker, Anthony Schwartz, Joshua Burks and Shaun Shivers cruised to victory in 39.80 on Saturday.
Auburn distance posted a double sweep in the men's and women's 3000m, taking the top three places on both sides. Silas Kipngetich cruised to a 10-second victory in 8:22.73, outdistancing teammate Jack Rogers, who crossed in 8:32.43. Tommy McDonough (8:35.33) and Andy Smith (8:35.77) were third and fourth, respectively in the event.
Sophomore Abbey Zane notched her first victory in an Auburn uniform winning the women's 3K in 9:51.77. Mercy Kiprop was second in the event crossing in 10:01.52, while Frances Patrick was a close third in 10:01.65.
Sophomore Tori McKinley won the women's shot put with a best heave of 15.74m/51-7.75 and one of three Auburn women to win a field event.
Freshman Dontavious Hill cleared a personal-best 2.17m/7-1.5 to finish second in the men's high jump, while Natosha Jordan was second on the women's side clearing 1.75m/5-8.75.
Freshman Caden Ciul won silver in the men's 400m hurdles (52.93), while fellow rookie Shaun Shivers took third in the 200m in 21.16.
The Tiger women snagged three bronze from Natosha Jordan (14.30) in the 100m hurdles, Ivana Muzaric (47.74m/156-7) in the discus and Tylar Colbert (1:02.76) in the 400m hurdles.
On Friday, Madi Malone broke a six-year old school record in the women's hammer throw en route to victory. Malone's third throw of 64.49m/211-7 crushed the previous school record of 207-2 set by Daina Levy in 2013. Malone had a huge day as four of her six throws all surpassed Levy's old school mark. After an initial toss of 202-10, Malone came an inch short of Levy's record before shattering it on the third throw. Her fourth thru sixth throws resulted in the No. 2 (209-0), No. 3 (207-8) and No. 4 (207-6) throws in school history.
Junior Kylee Carter broke the Hutsell-Rosen Track record en route to winning the women's javelin throw with a mark of 54.62m/179-2. Carter surpassed the previous facility record of 169-6 held by Florida's Evelien Dekkus in 2008.
The Tigers will be back in action at the Tennessee Relays, April 11-13 in Knoxville, Tenn.
