Auburn in the NFL: Week 9 rundown

Auburn in the NFL: Week 9 rundownAuburn in the NFL: Week 9 rundown

It's a good week to show the defensive line some love as tackles Montravius Adams and Derrick Brown (above) both continued to play well, proving to be especially effective against the run. Cam Newton also set another milestone with two rushing touchdowns. That and more in this week's NFL rundown.

BEST OF WEEK 9

Montravius Adams, DL, Green Bay Packers
The Packers kicked off the week with a dominant victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, and Adams did his part. The fourth-year defensive lineman played a season-high 46 percent of the defensive snaps and recorded two tackles and one tackle for loss. He's emerged as one of the NFL's better interior defenders this season, ranking 22nd out of 132 qualifying defensive linemen against the run with a PFF grade of 73.8.

Derrick Brown, DL, Carolina Panthers
Making his ninth straight start for the Panthers on Sunday, Brown tied his career high with five tackles against the Kansas City Chiefs. The rookie defensive lineman played a major role in limiting the Chiefs to just 30 yards on the ground. He also added a quarterback hit. In his first NFL season, Brown now has accumulated 23 tackles and six tackles for loss. He's second among all rookies with 13 quarterback pressures.

Daniel Carlson, K, Las Vegas Raiders
Carlson was perfect in Sunday's victory over the Los Angeles Chargers as he went 4 of 4 on extra points and proved clutch once again with a 31-yard field goal in the final minutes to extend the lead and help secure the win. The former fifth-round pick is now 23 of 24 on PATs and 17 of 19 on field-goal attempts this season.

Kerryon Johnson, RB, Detroit Lions
A week after scoring a touchdown, Johnson made the most of his 25 snaps on offense with four carries for 29 yards and a season-high three catches for 36 yards in Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Johnson averaged 9.3 yards per touch and finished with a PFF grade of 68.4. On the season, his pass-blocking grade (90.4) is tops among all NFL running backs.

Cam Newton, QB, New England Patriots
Newton led the Patriots to a fourth-quarterback comeback in Monday night's 30-27 win against the Jets. He completed 27 of 35 passes for 274 yards, including a 20-yard pass to Jakobi Meyers in the closing seconds to set up the game-winning field goal. He also scored two rushing touchdowns on the night to give him 66 for his career, which moves him past Stephen Davis for the most by a former Auburn player in the NFL all-time.
