AUBURN, Ala. – With swimming done until the new year, the spotlight turns to the divers this week as they close out the semester with the Auburn Diving Invitational.
The meet, which begins Wednesday, will feature six events over four days. The field, while smaller than last year's field, will include the host Tigers along with LSU, North Carolina and South Carolina.
"Obviously, this year was so different from any previous year that we've ever had," Auburn head diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "But the teams we've invited and that have committed to come in are going to provide a really strong, competitive environment for all of our divers to see where they stand at the end of this semester as we prepare to break and then reset our focus on the championship part of the season.
"We've introduced some new dives. We've changed some techniques with the freshmen. Really, the big thing is trying to get them more competitive experience so that they knew how to step up in a meet situation and trust their training to where they can compete with a level of confidence and continue to work on improving their diving skills."
On the women's side, Auburn sophomores Ashlynn Sullivan and Gretchen Wensuc have both enjoyed victories this fall. Sullivan won the 3-meter event in each of the first two meets while Wensuc placed first on platform at the Auburn Fall Invitational.
For the men, junior Conner Pruitt took first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions at the Auburn Fall Invitational, and he also won on 3-meter in a dual meet against Georgia. He'll be joined by senior Logan Andrews and sophomore Skip Donald, two other finalists from last year's SEC Championships.
There will be a total of five freshmen also competing for the Tigers this week.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and physical distancing measures involving the student-athletes, there will be no spectators allowed inside the aquatics center for the Auburn Diving Invitational.START TIMES
