AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn Women's Swim and Dive program began the 2022-23 season with an emphatic victory at Vanderbilt. Now, both the Women's and Men's teams will look for a similar effort at the USC Invite over the weekend.
The action begins on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles with Auburn, UC San Diego and Hawaii all making the trip to the Uytengsu Aquatics Center and will conclude Saturday.
Head coach Ryan Wochomurka's squad was downright dominant in Nashville, toppling the Commodores, 185-56.
Graduate student Daisy Platts picked up three different wins during the meet. Platts swam the opening leg of the winning 200 medley relay team and outswam the field in both the 100 and 200 back, ensuring the dominant win.
Freshman Ainsley Jones demonstrated with the youngster from Dunwoody, Georgia could be capable, grabbing her first victory for the Orange and Blue in the 200 breast.
Emily Hetzer, Anastasia Makarova, Casey Cullen, Claudia Thamm, Lexie Mulvihill, Rebekah Hamilton and Avery Bargeron all picked up wins for the Tigers as well.
For the men, Friday marks the first official meet against an opponent not in an Auburn swim cap this season.
A handful of men competed against some of the best swimmers on the planet at the Phillips 66 National Championships over the summer. Mason Mathias, Nate Stoffle, Aidan Stoffle and Reid Mikuta all mustered up top-10 finishes in a meet that featured 30 finals swims.
The CSCAA released its latest polls on Thursday. The Men's side came in at No. 19 while the Women's squad was tabbed No. 21.
