AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men's basketball program added a talented JUCO transfer wing player in Chad Baker-Mazara on Friday.
The 6-foot-7, 190-pound rising junior guard/forward heads to the Plains from Northwest Florida State College, where he helped lead the Raiders to a 29-8 overall record and the NJCAA National Championship Game this past season. Baker-Mazara averaged a team-leading 15.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, while also shooting 46.9 percent from 3-point range.
"Chad is a very talented player," Head Coach Bruce Pearl said. "He has great range on his three ball and can make plays out of ball screens for himself and others. He has long arms and quick feet. Chad is an agile defender, who is able to guard multiple positions. He has been extremely well coached throughout his career growing up in the Dominican Republic and playing at Duquesne, San Diego State and Northwest Florida. He has won a lot of games and championships."
During his time at San Diego State in 2021-22, he was honored as Mountain West Conference Sixth Man of the Year averaging 6.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game off the bench for the Aztecs.
Baker-Mazara started his collegiate career at Duquesne ranking third in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 41.7 shooting percentage from behind the 3-point arc, which was the second-best percentage by a freshman in program history. He also ranked No. 11 in the league in blocked shots.
Originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Baker-Mazara played basketball at Colonia (N.J.) High School where he led his team to back-to-back final four appearances in the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) tournament averaging 18.9 points, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals during his senior year.
He was named Home News Tribune Boys Basketball Player of the Year and selected to compete in the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association (NJSCA) Senior Boys All-Star Game and Greater Middlesex Conference Basketball Coaches Association (GMCBCA) Senior All-Star Boys Game. Baker-Mazara also played at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, where his team was ranked No. 8 nationally following the regular season.
