Ja’Kobe Tharp Breaks Hutsell-Rosen Track Record On Day Two SEC Outdoors

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn National Champion Ja’Kobe Tharp broke the Hutsell-Rosen Track record in the men’s 110m hurdles prelims, advancing to Saturday’s finals to pace Auburn during day two of the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday.

The Tigers also had five-point scorers in the field events, advanced six athletes to Saturday’s finals, and had three personal bests established.

Tharp delivered another stellar performance in the men’s 110m hurdles with a facility record. The Bowerman Award finalist clocked a preliminary-round best time of 13.09, tying his own season-best mark for the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season. The junior owns nine of the top-10 performances in AU history in the event and will look to win his second SEC Outdoor title Saturday afternoon.

Competing in his first SEC Outdoor championships, senior Omari Lewis automatically qualified for the 100m finals with a crossing time of 10.19 in a highly contested heat. Senior Tyler Davis edged out All-American Kayinsola Ajayi at the tape to automatically qualify for his first finals appearance in the event with a new season-best finish of 10.21. Finals will take place at 6:35 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Three Tigers scored in the women’s shot put for the first time in program history, headlined by senior Megan Hague’s mark of 17.78m/58-4, earning the All-American sixth place. Sophomore Camryn Massey took seventh with a personal best of 17.03m/55-10.5, improving her previous mark by over two feet. Junior Marley Raikiwasa earned her best finish at SECs, placing eighth with a mark of 16.63m/54-6.75.

Junior Max Hardin advanced to the finals of the men’s 1500m for the third consecutive season, placing fifth in the prelims with a time of 3:45.30. The Auburn native, who won silver at the 2024 SEC Outdoors and is Auburn’s school record holder in the event. In his first appearance at the SEC Outdoor Championships, sophomore Joshua Kosgei also qualified for the finals after clocking 3:46.57 in the prelims. Kosgei and Hardin will compete for the conference title tomorrow evening.

Making her second appearance at the SEC Outdoor Championships, sophomore Camila Gomes advanced to the women’s 1500m finals for the second consecutive season after crossing in 4:21.89 in the preliminary round.

Senior Matthew Rueff notched his best finish at SEC outdoors in the men’s shot put with a mark of 18.37m/60-3.25, earning him seventh in the process. Rueff scored his first career points in the event in the process. Competing in his first meet as a Tiger, sophomore Kai Twaddle-Dunham shattered his previous personal best by over three feet with a mark of 17.92m/58-9.5 to claim 12th.

Freshman Daramola Ibukun placed sixth in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.68m/25-2.5 to score his first career points in a conference meet. Ibukun’s mark came on the final attempt of the night and catapulted him from ninth to reach scoring position for the Tigers.

After the conclusion of Day Two’s action, the Auburn women come in at 12th with 14 points, while the men sit at 13th in the standings with eight.

The final day of the outdoor championships begins at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday with the women’s discus final. The Tigers will field the defending national champions and the nation’s top men’s 4x100m relay squad at 5:15 p.m.
