AUBURN, Ala.— The No. 3 Auburn equestrian team downed Lynchburg in the home opener Thursday at Auburn University Equestrian Center, 9-0. The two teams were competing in a Jumping Seat-only contest.
“Really excited about how today went,” head coach Jessica Braswell said. “I thought we had some great rides, a good way to kick off the season.”
The Tigers swept the Most Outstanding Performer honors of the day. Junior Ariana Marnell won on the Flat and freshman Taylor Cawley earned honors in Fences.
“Ariana had two great ride and I’m really glad to see her come back and start the season just like she finished it last year,” Braswell said. “Taylor winning MOP in her first career start was exciting and happy to see her success today.”
“It was great to have the Western crew at the ring cheering, so we were really loud,” Braswell added. “Thanks to all the Auburn fans that came out today and we’re looking forward to seeing them tomorrow.”
FLAT
Auburn started the meet with a 4-0-1 win on the Flat. Senior Avery Glynn won the first point, 82-73, and junior Kate Hagerty won her match up, 87-78. Cawley posted an 86 over her opponent’s 79 to win the point before Marnell marked an 89 to best her opponent’s 82. Junior Sadie Berkhout earned an 84 to match her opponent’s score, resulting in a tie.
FENCES
The Tigers swept the second portion of the meet against the Hornets, going 5-0 in Fences. Sophomore Emily Jurnovoy started the half off with a 78, besting her opponent’s 73 to win the point. Glynn earned the win with a score of 87-80 before Cawley outscored her opponent, 88-84. Hagerty and Marnell closed out the meet outscoring their opponents 86-8 and 87-84, respectively.
