Bill Shannon joined Auburn Athletics as the Associate Athletics Director for Leadership Development in August 2017.

In his role, Shannon has oversight of leadership development, the department’s mentoring program, and fan experience quality control. He manages, designs and delivers professional development programs focused on leadership, including teaching 21 courses and diverse learning experiences for employees, coaches and student-athletes. Shannon also serves as the sport administrator for men’s and women’s tennis and advises on the gameday fan experience.  

Prior to joining Auburn Athletics, Shannon led Auburn University’s Human Resource Development team. He previously worked for 15 years at Duke University in various leadership and director roles and, prior to his time at Duke, spent 20 years with The Walt Disney Company in California and Florida. Shannon also served as a high school basketball coach in his native California and led his team to a state championship.  

Shannon was a basketball student-athlete and received his bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fullerton before earning his master’s degree from United State International University, San Diego.

Shannon is married to Vicki, and the couple have two sons, Matt and Mike, as well as two grandchildren.
