Head softball coach Mickey Dean announced the hiring on Wayne Pettry as the program’s video analyst in August of 2022. Pettry joins the Tigers after spending the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at James Madison University.
In his two seasons at JMU, Pettry helped the program to the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Championship and its first Women’s College World Series appearance in program history.
During his tenure as a volunteer assistant, 13 Dukes earned NFCA All-Region honors with Odicci Alexander earning third team NFCA All-American honors in 2021. Pettry and the JMU coaching staff was selected as the 2021 NFCA Northeast Staff and NFCA National Coach Staff of the Year.
Prior to his tenure at James Madison, Pettry served as an assistant coach for the Harrisonburg High School varsity and junior varsity softball teams. He helped guide the Blue Streaks to their first regional appearances in five years.
Pettry began his career as a four-year manager for the JMU softball program, assisting with day-to-day practices, in-game statistics and other duties. As a manager, Pettry helped the program during the 2019 NCAA postseason run and was a member of the 2019 and 2017 CAA Championship teams.
