Director of Sports Performance Damon Davis is in his 15th season as the strength and conditioning coach responsible for the training of men’s basketball.
Davis’ innovate approach has helped many Tigers transform their bodies and be ready for the next level, most recently with first-round draft picks Jabari Smith (No. 3 overall) and Walker Kessler (No. 22 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft.
He spent his first four years at Auburn as assistant strength and conditioning coach, the last two with the baseball team.
Davis was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Iowa from 2004-08, working with baseball, track and field, cross country and softball while assisting all other sports. Prior to that, he was an intern with the Chicago Bulls from 2002-04.
The Petersburg, Ill. native received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Western Illinois University in 2003 and is working on his master’s degree at Auburn University.
Davis is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, is certified by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified and is certified as a Sports Performance Coach by United States of America Weightlifting.
He is married to the former Yari Schmidt of Rockford, Ill. They have one son, Magnus, and a daughter, Nellie Elizabeth.
