WACO, Texas ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The No. 1 Auburn equestrian advanced to the NCEA Championship final after defeating No. 5 Texas A&M, 10-6, Saturday afternoon in the Extraco Events Center. The Tigers (15-1) will take on No. 6 TCU at 2 p.m. CT for the national title.
The Equitation on the Flat crew opened with a 3-1 victory over the Aggies. Freshman Caitlin Boyle finished with a 146-144 win over Hannah Williams, while the SEC Flat Rider of the Year in senior Elizabeth Benson earned a 141-129 victory over Alex Desiderio. Junior All-American Ashley Foster closed out the event with a 167-130 win.
Freshman Blair McFarlin captured a point in Reining for the Tigers, defeating Logan Pluhar 139-136.5.
The teams went into intermission tied at 4-4.
Horsemanship earned three points for Auburn as seniors Hannah Loseke and Griffin Knight and freshman Lauren Diaz all picked up wins. Loseke finished with the high score on the day as the All-American scored a 155. Knight captured a 154-152.5 win over Avery Ellis and Diaz capped the event with a 149-148.5 win over Carolyn Day.
The Tigers sealed the team victory in Equitation Over Fences as Auburn went 3-1 over the Aggies. Freshman Hayley Iannotti gave the Tigers their eighth point with a 154-148 victory over Alex Desiderio and Boyle's 158-130 win over Rachael Hake put Auburn on top. Benson put the icing on the cake as she defeated Rebekah Chenelle 170-161.
