  • Started the scoring with a RBI single in the third inning of the series finale after doubling off the wall in left field in his first at-bat of the game.

  • Made his first relief appearance of the season vs. UT Martin Tuesday and faced the minimum in 2.0 innings of work thanks to a runner caught stealing and double play.
  • Turned in 4.0 scoreless innings and earned his first career win in his SEC debut and the team’s series-clinching win vs. Vanderbilt.
  • Faced just one batter over the minimum and retired the last eight Commodores he faced to allow for Auburn to comeback from a five-run deficit in the finale.
  • Thirty-five of the 50 pitches he offered were for strikes, good for a 70 percent rate.

Samuel Dutton – Sr. – RHP – Southside, Ala.

  • Earned the win in his first SEC start in an Auburn uniform.
  • His 7.0 innings pitched were a career high and the most by an Auburn pitcher since Chase Allsup also turned in 7.0 innings vs. Missouri on May 19, 2023.
  • Allowed a two-run home run in the third inning but retired 14 of the last 17 batters he faced from the end of the third through the rest of his outing.
  • Saved arguably his best for last as he retired Vanderbilt in order on just 11 pitches in his seventh and final inning of work.

Alex Petrovic – So. – RHP – Cypress, Texas

  • Earned his first career win in a career-best outing of 5.1 innings vs. UT Martin, making just his second start in the contest.
  • Retired the first 16 batters he faced and needed just 53 pitches to do so.
  • Struck out five batters the first time through the order and ultimately registered a career high with eight in the game.
  • Ultimately delivered a career-high 61 pitches, 41 of which were strikes.

Team Notes

Auburn won its seventh straight series dating back to the final two series of last season with a pair of wins against No. 13 Vanderbilt … the seven straight series wins are the most since winning seven straight series to begin the 2017 season … it marked the team’s first SEC series opening win since 2019 after playing the No. 4, No. 1, No. 3 and No. 8 teams in the country to open league play the last four conference seasons … the Tigers improved to 4-1 vs. ranked opponents this season with the series win against the Commodores … the team’s comeback win in the series finale marked the first time winning a game when trailing by three or more runs through seven innings since 2023 … Belyeu’s grand slam marked the team’s first of the season … it was the program’s first go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning or later since Jonathan Schuerholz hit an eighth-inning grand slam in a 6-3 win at Alabama on May 6, 2000 … the team’s top five hitters in the SEC opening series were all newcomers – Steele (4-for-8), Terrell (5-for-11), Chris Rembert (4-for-10), Chase Fralick (4-for-11) and Bristol Carter (2-for-7) … newcomer pitchers in Dutton and Alvarez also earned the decision in both wins with another newcomer in Ryan Hetzler locking down his first save in the series finale ... … Auburn enters the week ranked in the top 25 in a number of pitching categories including shutouts (two), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.10), strikeouts per 9.0 innings (10.8) and WHIP (1.23) … the Tigers also rank in the top 25 in batting average (.318), double plays (20) and fielding percentage (.980).
