AUBURN, Ala. – The lone freshman on the 2026-27 roster, Caleb Williams joins the Auburn men’s basketball team with high expectations heading into his first season on the Plains.
A four-star shooting guard hailing from Tampa, Florida, Williams comes in as the No. 26 shooting guard in the state and the No. 28 player in his class.
In his first true action against KK Mega Superbet in Greece, Williams averaged 9.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. The first-year player also grabbed two steals in each of the two contests.
Q&A with Caleb Williams:
Q: What was your favorite part of the Greece trip?
A: I would definitely say hanging out with teammates and getting closer with everyone and learning the different aspects of the team, off the court-wise. Then basketball-wise, being able to figure out where I fit in and what our team looks like, and just being able to gel with people on and off the court.
Q: What has been your biggest adjustment from high school to college?
A: The biggest change would be our scheduling and our day-to-day. What we’re asked for, practices, weights and nutrition. Everything is taken way more seriously. A lot of things are pushed when they wouldn’t have been pushed in high school. Even the little things throughout the day-to-day like having to go see a strategist to make sure my homework and schooling is getting completed if I need help with stuff like that. Definitely the requirements of our day-to-day.
Q: What about on the court? Have you noticed anything significantly different?
A: The speed of the game and the physicality. Everyone is longer, faster, stronger and more aware. The awareness on the court and people’s IQ sticks out. It’s been a good adjustment. It’s been fun learning where I can get to on the floor, how to get to my spots and picking stuff out.
Q: How would you describe your game?
A: I would say exciting. There’s a lot of things I can do on the floor. A lot of people don’t know how good of a playmaker I can be. And scoring, I can put the ball in the basket.
Q: What are you most looking forward to as a freshman this year?
A: Seeing all the arenas and different cultures of teams. Even learning the history of rivalries and stuff like that, just the environments.
Q: What do you know about Neville Arena’s environment?
A: It gets loud. Neville gets loud I know that for sure.
