After spending two seasons as the volunteer coach under head coach Butch Thompson, Greg Drye entered the role of director of operations in the summer of 2017. He joined the Auburn Family in 2016.
In his role as director of operations, Drye works behind the scenes to coordinate all team travel and meals and oversees the team managers, among other duties.
Drye's second season on Thompson's staff saw the Tigers climb as high as No. 4 in the nation and earn a berth to the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, finishing with an overall record of 37-26.
Under the direction of Drye and Thompson, the Tigers' pitching staff was among the nation's best with redshirt junior Keegan Thompson and sophomore Casey Mize. Mize was third in the SEC with a 2.04 ERA and had the nation's best strikeout-to-walk ratio at 12.1 (109 strikeouts, 9 walks). Thompson was sixth in the SEC with a 2.41 ERA and opened the season with a school-record 23.2 consecutive scoreless innings pitched. Thompson would be drafted in the third round by the Chicago Cubs, Auburn's highest draft pick since 2004. In all, four Tigers were selected in the 2017 MLB Draft.
Drye came to Auburn following 11 seasons at Mississippi State beginning in 2005 during which time he served as Coordinator of Baseball Operations and also as administrative assistant.
In his position as Coordinator of Baseball Operations, Drye assisted with baseball strength and conditioning as well as coordinating team travel and equipment, directing the team’s video operations as well as overseeing various aspects of day-to-day operations.
From 2009-12, Drye served as an administrative assistant in the Mississippi State baseball office. In that role, he handled a wide array of duties and assisting with the team’s advancement to the championship of the 2005 SEC Tournament and the 2007 NCAA College World Series.
During his time as administrative assistant with baseball, Drye also served as an instructor in the physical education department at Mississippi State.
Prior to his arrival at MSU, Drye served as a graduate assistant coach at Delta State. Drye coached the outfielders and helped guide DSU to two Gulf South Conference titles and a pair of trips to the NCAA Division II South Regional in 1999 and 2000.
A native of Long Beach, Miss., Drye played collegiately at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he earned MJCAA all-state honors as an infielder before completing his playing career at Baylor.
Drye earned his undergraduate degree in coaching and sports administration from Southern Miss in 1998, as well as a graduate degree in physical education, health and recreation at Delta State.
He is married to the former Priscilla Giachelli of Blue Spring, Miss. Drye has two daughters, Dylan and Dair Katherine, and one son, Dansby.
