Marcus Woodson joined the Auburn football staff in January, 2018, as an assistant coach working with the Tiger defensive backs.

Woodson came to Auburn from Memphis, where he was defensive backs coach from 2015-16. During his two years there, the Tigers won 18 games and made two bowl appearances, forcing 60 turnovers, the second best total in the nation, including 32 interceptions. In 2017, freshman defensive back T.J. Carter was named to the ESPN.com and USA Today Freshman All-America teams and was the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year after setting a Memphis freshman record with five interceptions.
Before Memphis, Woodson spent two seasons at Fresno State, helping the Bulldogs to the 2014 Hawaii Bowl. All-Mountain West defensive back Derron Smith was a sixth-round NFL draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals.
From 2009-13, Woodson was defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Charleston Southern, tutoring all-Big South players Demaris Freeman, Charles James, Chris Kuzdale and Elijah Lee. He added the defensive passing game coordinator title before the 2012 season. In 2013, Charleston Southern finished the campaign with a 10-3 record and a No. 22 national ranking; the Bucs finished the season with the nation’s No. 3 pass defense.
Woodson was at Millsaps College from 2005-08, helping produce three consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) championships. In 2008, Millsaps finished with an 11-1 record and a No. 12 national ranking. In his three seasons, Woodson coached all-SCAC performers Jonathan Brooks, Jacob Hanberry, Marcus Harris and Ray Kline.
He was a two-year letterman at Ole Miss, recording 38 career tackles and an interception as a starter at safety before his career was cut short by a knee injury before his senior season. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with an emphasis in criminal justice from Ole Miss in 2003, and was selected for the Senior Leadership Unity Council.
A native of Moss Point, Miss., where he was part of two state championship teams at Moss Point High and played in the Bernard Blackwell Classic, Woodson and his wife Chastity, who holds a bachelor’s from Loyola (La.) and a master’s from Howard University, have two sons, Carter and Bryce.
