Personal Information
There are many banking options within walking distance of campus. Although every bank has slightly different requirements, be prepared with the below information/documents:
- Proof of local address (i.e. apartment contract, utility bill, etc)
- Passport
- Secondary form of identification (Examples: student ID, birth certificate, driver's license, letter from the international office)

- AU Federal Credit Union (special requirements for membership)
- PNC
- Regions
- Wells Fargo (Haley Center)
If you are in good standing at AU as an international student and meet the following requirements, you are eligible to obtain an Alabama Driver's license:
- Have a minimum of 160 days remaining on the validity of your documents
- Have a valid passport, I-20, and have possession of your latest I-94
- Have a good standing letter from the Office of International Student and Scholar Services
- Either a social security card OR a denial letter from SSN stating that you are not eligible for one.
- Schedule your Driver's License Appointment 48 hours before
- Study materials available on the website
All cars must be insured and registered with the state of Alabama following purchase
Car insurance can be purchased at local venders, via the phone or online
- Speaking with insurance providers prior to purchasing a car may provide guidance regarding type of insurance required and associated costs specific to certain types of cars.
You must register your vehicle within 20 days from the purchase

- County Taxes, if applicable
Many carriers provide contract or pay-as-you-go options for international students. Most require students to bring international documents to store in order to activate a plan. Required Documents:
- Passport
- Student Visa (Student ID if you do not require a student Visa)
- Student email address (in some cases)
